Skatera recognizes the overlooked, yet growing, niche of girls who skate by providing young girls in the 13-27 year old age range with a skate-based identity. This identity includes a junior apparel line with clothes that emphasize function, fit, safety and style. It also includes the use of media outlets such as websites, videos, and print as avenues for girls to express themselves and bond with others. Skatera strives to open the doors to girls who skate any discipline and actively promotes their cases and events.
Skatera embraces the following values:
|
Chris Chaput is the president of Skatera and has over 35 years of experience in the skateboarding and Action Sports industries. He created Skatera primarily as a girls soft goods brand to complement the girls hard goods brand he has already developed. He is known mostly for his hard goods dynasty by having “re-invented the wheel” in the ever-evolving longboard market. By using super high performance urethanes created and produced in his hometown of Huntington Beach, his Abec 11, Pink, Retro and subLIME brands have changed the way that people skate. |
|
Pamela Zoolalian is the senior designer for Skatera. With 15 years of experience in apparel design specific to the Action Sports Industry and her experience as an extreme sports athlete, Pamela leads Skatera’s design team with powerful aesthetics and a keen sense of the skater girls’ needs. “Providing fit, function, and style was key,” say Pamela. Prior to designing for Skatera, Pamela was an in-house designer for a number of the Action Sports Industry’s biggest and best, including Zumiez, Pacific Sunwear, Haro Design, Blue Torch, O’Neil, Fleshgear, and Elleven. |

Chris Chaput and Pamela Zoolalian make up Action Sport’s latest Dynamic Duo. Where they are strong individually, collectively they bring an incredible yin-yang energy to give Skatera, and all girls who skate, the firepower and support they deserve. Chris and Pamela began as competitive rivals over ten years ago racing against one another in the X-Games. Chris came onto the skating scene in the mid-seventies and has been a World Champion in both Freestyle and Downhill. Pamela saw street-luging in the mid nineties, got hooked immediately and quickly became a top pro rider. The two have traveled and competed all over the world including South Africa, Europe and Brazil. They have even ice-luged on the Olympic track in Park City, Utah. Having forged a friendship along the way, each has earned the mutual respect for one another’s talent, skill, and creativity. Today they share a common desire to get behind women skaters in all disciplines of the sport. They bring the same passion and intensity each showed as competitors to this newest endeavor. Together Chaput and Zoolalian make a formidable team in the creation of Skatera. It is their goal to promote and support all women skaters and provide the fashion that fits their active lifestyles. |
Chris Chaput, Founder/President
Chris Chaput is the president of Skatera and has over 35 years of experience in the skateboarding and Action Sports industries. He created Skatera primarily as a girls soft goods brand to complement the girls hard goods brand he has already developed.
He is known mostly for his hard goods dynasty by having “re-invented the wheel” in the ever-evolving longboard market. By using super high performance urethanes created and produced in his hometown of Huntington Beach, his Abec 11, Pink, Retro and subLIME brands have changed the way that people skate.
Chris came onto the skateboarding scene back in 1975 where he became the World Freestyle Champion in the boys’ (12-14) division in San Diego. One year later, at age 15, he turned pro and promptly won the World Professional Freestyle Championship in Long Beach. That competition would later be featured in the blockbuster movie “Lords of Dogtown,” where Chris played the role of Russ Howell, his current friend and former competitor. His extensive use of every imaginable handstand and headstand variation established Chris as one of the premier freestylers in skateboarding.
As a teenager he was at the center of skateboarding’s most bizarre publicity stunt. He hand delivered a skateboard to the Queen at Buckingham Palace in celebration of the Queen’s 25th Jubilee. He then flew the Concord SST to Washington DC where he delivered another skateboard to Amy Carter at the White House…on the same day at the same time. He recalls the British stewardesses allowing him to skate down the aisle of the Concord and jokes that he is the world’s fastest skateboarder having ridden at over Mach 2. He has competed and performed all over the world including, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Venezuela, Canada and the US.
More recently, Chris has been bitten by the speed bug and has moved from freestyle to downhill racing, where he was 2001 World Champion. He continues to compete at world-class levels and is his own best product tester and crash dummy. His company Abec 11 is a powerhouse of performance and professional product.
His ability to recognize under-serviced niches in the skateboarding industry and to successfully bring product to market has secured his reputation as a marketing genius. Now, with his business savvy and his passion for the sport, he brings Skatera to the skater girl. Chris describes Skatera as the sk8-based identity girls are looking for and have yet to find. He is often heard to say, “Longboarding is the door through which girls who skate any discipline can be welcomed and embraced.”
He is the proud father of one adorable young girl and currently resides in Huntington Beach, Ca.
